Polarized Sunglasses

Polarization and UV protection are two different things, and the shops that blur them are the reason most people buy the wrong pair. UV400 is about your eyes: it blocks the radiation that does long-term damage, and every frame in this shop has it, polarized or not. Polarization is about comfort: a filter that removes the light bouncing flat off a surface, which is the glare that makes you squint on a wet road or on water.

That makes polarized the right choice for driving, for anything near water, and for long hours in open sun. It is the wrong choice for exactly two situations worth knowing about: reading an LCD dashboard or a phone screen at certain angles, where the filter can black the screen out, and skiing on ice, where the glare is the thing telling you the surface changed.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between polarized and UV400?
UV400 blocks 100% of ultraviolet light up to 400 nanometres and is about protecting your eyes. Polarization filters horizontally reflected light and is about comfort in glare. They are unrelated: a lens can have either, both or neither. Every pair here has UV400; the ones on this page also have polarization.
How can I tell if a lens is really polarized?
Hold it in front of an LCD screen and rotate it slowly. A polarized lens will darken sharply at around 90 degrees; an ordinary tinted lens will not change. You can also look at light reflecting off a car bonnet or a puddle through the lens and turn your head.
Are polarized sunglasses good for driving in India?
Yes, and it is the strongest reason to buy a pair here. Glare off a wet road after rain, off the bonnet in afternoon sun and off the windscreens ahead of you is exactly what polarization removes. The one caution is that some digital dashboards and phone screens can look black through a polarized lens at certain angles.
Do polarized lenses cost more?
On this site they are priced with everything else, from ₹1,899, rather than sold as an upgrade. Delivery is free over ₹3,000 and charged by PIN code below that, shown before you pay.
Which frames on this page are polarized?
All of them. Every product page also states it in its own specification, under Lens, so you can confirm it on the individual frame rather than trusting the category.
